103 years of dedication

By Chuck Kajer, Managing Editor

103 years... that's the total number of years of service that Sister Catherine McInnis and Sister Jean Juenemann have dedicated to the New Prague community.

Sister Catherine arrived in New Prague in 1952, one of eight Benedictine nuns who helped open Queen of Peace Hospital. She started the business office from scratch and over the next six decades performed countless jobs at the hospital. Sister Jean arrived in 1963 and spent all but two years since then in New Prague. Though she only worked there for 45 years, compared to Catherine's 58, she was instrumental, as CEO of the hospital, in transforming it into the modern health care facility we cherish today.

During a reception on Sunday to thank these two women, it was they who thanked us. In the true Benedictine tradition of humility, Sister Catherine said she was blessed and honored to serve the community. Sister Jean, who retired six years ago but continued to make New Prague home, said she will miss New Prague and all of her friends here, and thanked the community for all of their support.

As they settle into their new homes in St. Cloud, we offer them our prayers and our gratitude for all of the gifts they brought with them. It is their spirit and dedication to others that helped Queen of Peace grow. The hospital, and the community, are better for having been the home of these two remarkable women.
