3 charged in assault

Three people have been arrested and charged in connection with an assault on a juvenile male that resulted in severe injuries last week.
Bryton Alexander Nelson, 21, of Montgomery, faces charges for assault, while two others, Jade Elizabeth Geelan, 19, of New Prague, and Vincent Alonzo Hall, 18, of Montgomery were charged for helping plan the attack. The charging documents claim the assault was in retaliation for an alleged sexual assault, and that $800 was allegedly offered to someone who would assault the teen.
The incident took place at Southside Park in New Prague on Thursday evening, July 7. Witnesses said they saw two cars enter the park, and a short time later, there was some screaming and a loud thud.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague. The criminal complaint said the victim had a large laceration on the back of his head and severe head trauma. He was later airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, where he underwent emergency surgery for a brain injury.
Nelson and Geelan were still at the park when police arrived. They were questioned later that evening and were booked into the Le Sueur County Jail early Friday morning, July 8. Hall was booked into the jail on Friday afternoon.
On Monday, July 11, Nelson was charged with a felony for first-degree assault, which has a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine. Geelan and Hall were charged with a felony conspiracy to commit first degree assault, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and/or $15,000 fine.
