3 new roundabouts planned in Scott Co.

The Scott County Board has set in motion the process for adding three new roundabouts to county roads by 2013, including one at a dangerous intersection on the Cedar Lake/Spring Lake township line.

The county solicited proposals for engineering and services for three intersections in the county and at its February 10 meeting, they awarded contracts for the projects.

Two companies, Bonestroo and WSB worked together on a proposal for a two-lane roundabout at the intersection of County State Aid Highway 16 and Lynn Avenue in Savage. The county and city received a Federal Highway Safety grant to help fund the project, which is slated for construction in 2010.

Another intersection, at County State Aid Highways 91 and 68 in Credit River Township will also get a roundabout. Stonebrooke Engineering was awarded the engineering and design contract for the project, which is slated for construction in 2011. This project also received funding from the Federal Highway Safety program.

Stonebrook also was awarded a contract for design and engineering for a realignment of County State Aid Highway 8 and construction of a roundabout at the intersection of that road and CSAH 23 at the border of Cedar Lake and Spring Lake townships. The design and engineering phase is scheduled for 2009 and 2010, with construction planned for 2013.
