Adapted softball season is off and running

The New Prague Trojan adapted softball team has a 1-1 record after its first week of play.

The Trojans earned a forfeit win over St. Paul Humboldt on Tuesday, April 12, when the Hawks could not field a full team. The teams did play a scrimmage game, which saw New Prague come out on top.

On Thursday, April 14, the Trojans faced Chaska/Chanhassen/ Shakopee/Prior Lake Southern Stars, with the Southern Stars claiming a 16-1 win.

Things started strong for the Trojans, with Seth Dorner and Brookelyn Skluzacek both reaching base, but they were left stranded. Prior Lake scored five runs in the bottom of the first.

New Prague didn’t get another runner on base until the fifth inning when Alex Miland singled. He and Dorner had the only two hits for the Trojans.

Defensively, Seth Dorner had a great game as pitcher. Jake Schurman played a solid game at shortstop as well. Defensively, the Trojans played solid ball, with only a few errors. The Southern Stars scored on big hits and fast base running.

"We were happy with how our players played in the field," said Coach Shellie Kriha. "There was nothing we could do with a team that can hit the ball like they can."

Kriha said the coaches have confidence that the team will continue to improve each game. "We have a young team with lots of potential. We just need to build some confidence."
