Adapted softball team headed to state!

New Prague High School's adapted softball team has qualified for the state CI Adapted Softball Tournament May 30 and 31 in Coon Rapids.

The Trojans advanced with a 19-6 win over Buffalo Thursday, May 22. It is the first trip to state for a New Prague High School adapted athletics team. The program is in its third year, with this just the second year of adapted softball.

Before Thursday's playoff game, New Prague split a pair of regular season games last week. They defeated Minneapolis and lost to South Suburban.

New Prague will face Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville in the first round of the state tournament Friday, May 30, at Coon Rapids High School. The Trojans play at 4 p.m. Championship-round games are at noon on Saturday, while consolation games begin at 9 p.m. The Trojans will play at least two games at the tournament, and if they win either of those, they will play in a third.

Trojans 19, Minneapolis 16

The Trojans scored five runs in the first inning and led 9-0 after two innings, but Minneapolis scored five each in the second and third to take a 10-9 lead.

Minneapolis led 15-12 after four innings, but the Trojans scored five runs in the sixth, with hits from Marcus Schoenbauer, Sam Bisek, Katie Busch and Mike Fletcher. The Trojans led 19-16 going into the bottom of the seventh when Mitch Heggemeyer struck out two batters and got the last out on a fly ball.

It was an exciting game for the kids
