Adapted softball team loses opener
The New Prague/TCU/ LSH adapted softball team lost its season-opener 11-1 in five innings Monday, April 8, at Prior Lake.
The Trojans were taking on a team representing Chaska/Chanhassen/Prior Lake/ Shakopee, and coach Shellie Kriha said she was pleased with the effort of her young team against a bigger, more experienced squad.
“We have a lot of new players that have never played softball. They are working hard and learning a lot, but it will take some time to get them familiar with the pace and rules of the game,” she said.
“There were a lot of nerves and unknowns going into the first game of the season. Considering all of that, we felt that the team looked good. Overall, we hit fairly well. We left some runners on base at some key times, but had some good hitting throughout our lineup.“
Defensively, she said the team needs to continue to work on making the plays and cutting down on errors. “We look forward to continually improving as the season goes on. This is a young team but it definitely has some great potential.”
Top hitters for the Trojans were Alex Palma and Jacob Malecha. Defensively, Matt Schoenbauer had a great game getting many key outs. Also, standing out defensively were pitcher Palma and first baseman Charlie Zeilinger.
The Trojans were scheduled to travel to St. Paul Humboldt on Wednesday, April 10. They host South Washington County on Monday, April 15, at the New Prague CEC gym, then on Wednesday, April 17, they face South Suburban at Bloomington Jefferson HS.
