Adapted softball team splits games

The New Prague adapted softball team split a pair of games last week, defeating South Suburban 14-10, but losing to Minneapolis Roosevelt 16-2.

The Trojans were scheduled to face Burnsville/Farmington/ Lakeville Monday, April 24, and play at St. Paul Humboldt on Wednesday, April 26. Look for results in next week’s edition.

New Prague (1-3) hosts Dakota United Monday, May 1, and Chanhassen/Chaska/Shakopee/Prior Lake on Wednesday, May 3, with both games at the New Prague Middle School gym.

Trojans 14, Jets 10 New Prague’s bats came alive Wednesday, April 19, during its game against South Suburban at Bloomington Jefferson High School.

"It was fun to watch so many of our players come up to the plate with confidence and hit the ball," Coach Shellie Kriha said. "We took control early in the game getting a run in the first inning, four in the second and five in the third."

New Prague let South Suburban back in the game over the last few innings, but in the end they prevailed.

Highlights of the game include Jake Schurman's double play in the second inning with the bases loaded as well as some key catches in the outfield. Pitcher Seth Dorner had eight strikeouts during the game. New Prague had 20 hits for the evening. Blake Perry and Garrett Gagner led the team with four hits each. Chase Smith and Scherman followed with three hits each and Charlie Zeilinger had two hits.
