Agnes Minar, 93

Agnes Mary Minar, 93, of Northfield, formerly of New Prague, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at the Three Links Care Center in N o r t h f i e l d , with family by her side.

Agnes was born September 27, 1919, in New Prague, a daughter of Alois and Anna (Novotny) Zelenka. She graduated from New Prague High School in 1937. After her education she worked as a housekeeper for her aunt. On November 15, 1938, Agnes married Wenceslaus J. (Jim) Minar at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Following marriage, they bought a farm in Greenvale Township, where they farmed. Following Jim's death in 1976, she remained on the farm and worked as the St. Dominic Rectory cook for 15 years. In December 2004, she moved to the Three Links Campus in Northfield. Agnes was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, and a former board member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, as well as a volunteer at St. Dominic School. She was a founding member of Birth Right, the local chapter of Right to Life, and spent many years as a 4- H leader. She was a talented seamstress, and after sewing for her family, she made baby blankets and kimonos for those in need. Agnes was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, a great baker, and she loved her chickens.

She is survived by seven children Mary Ann (Michael) Damm, Madison, WI, Sister Kathryn OSF, Rochester, Barbara (Ronald) MacDonald, Bemidji, James, Northfield, Monica Boe, Ada, OK, Agnes Paul, Portland, OR, and Geralyn (Michael) Lindblom, Mankato; 17 grandchildren Michael Damm, Jacqueline Damm (John Groener), Jennifer (Michael) Philbin, Christopher (Jennifer) Damm, Jeffrey (Amber) Damm, Timothy Damm, Angela, Joseph and Mark Minar, Eric and Meredith Boe, James (Cheryl) Paul, John (Sarah) Paul, Stephen and Kevin Paul, Heather and Jennifer Lindblom; 12 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Bernice Zelenka, New Prague; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughters Margaret and Ann; her greatgrandson Timothy Pharoah Damm; her daughter-in-law Barbara Minar; son-in-law Dennis Boe; her parents; and brothers George and Alois Zelenka.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield, with Rev. Dennis Dempsey officiating.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Northfield. Casket bearers will be Agnes' grandchildren. Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield, and continued at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral.

Memorials are preferred to St. Dominic's School and Bethlehem Academy
