Alva Benshoof, 89

Alva M. Benshoof, 89, of Le Sueur and formerly of New Prague and Ortonville, died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at the Gardenview Nursing Home in Le Sueur.

Alva was born on May 27, 1918, in Revillo, SD, to Guy and Hazel (Snider) Benshoof. He attended country school near Revillo. He worked as a farm hand and also drove a bread truck. Alva married Beulah Whiting on September 6, 1966, in Ortonville. He worked for 26 years as a stonecutter for Dakota Granite out of Milbank, SD. He moved to New Prague in 1973 where he was the owner of Benshoof Monuments and also worked for AMPI. In recent years, the Benshoofs moved to Le Sueur. He was a member of the Eagles Club in New Prague, the Teamsters Union and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague. Alva enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife; children, Darlene (Bob) Rehn, Tulsa, OK, Carol (Jim) Kust, Delano, Frank (Karen) Benshoof, Tulsa, OK, Eugene (Donna) Benshoof, Watertown, SD, George (Jeanne) Benshoof, Le Sueur, Cheryl Kilvington, St. Paul, Peggy (Craig) Westlund, Le Center, and Mark (Judy) Benshoof, Tulsa, OK; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and brother, Vernon (Vera) Benshoof, St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by three children, Alice, Alan and Denis; four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 17, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague.

Interment was at the Mound Cemetery in Ortonville at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 16, at Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.
