Alvin Edel, 80

Alvin J. Edel, 80, of New Prague, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at his home.

Alvin was born in Montgomery on December 25, 1929, a son of John J. and Emma (Budin) Edel. Born and raised in Montgomery, he attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School, Montgomery High School and Mankato Business College. Alvin married Lorraine Pexa on August 22, 1951, in New Prague. He worked as a car salesman for 40-plus years for C-Lind Ford in New Prague and Wolf Motors in Jordan. He was also a van driver for the New Prague School District. Alvin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the New Prague Eagles.

He is survived by his wife; children Patricia (Robert) Eide, New Prague, Mary (Mark) Lukkes, New Prague and Bruce (Jean) Edel, New Prague; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings Philly Hoefs, Henderson and Ivan (Lois) Edel, Cannon Falls; and sister-in-law Frances Edel, Champlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Richard Edel; and a sister Helen Pesta.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were grandchildren Alex Eide, Michael Eide, Emmalee Eide, Chad Lukkes, Andy Lukkes, Brian Edel, Megan Haldeman and Annie Edel.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
