Annexation stipulations repealed by New Market Township board
New Market Township has repealed the stipulations it placed regarding annexation of 130 acres into the city of New Market. The action came at its regular meeting Tuesday, April 5.
Last month, the board approved annexation of the 130 acres, but placed stipulations on the annexation which the city could not accept. The stipulations dealt mostly with the location of a proposed elementary school to be built by the New Prague Area School District.
Since the town board passed the resolution last month, township elections resulted in the ouster of Joel Helmberger from the board. Helmberger and Harry Anderson had voted for the stipulations while LeRoy Clausen voted against them.
George Silverness, who replaced Helmberger on the board, provided the swing vote. The township did replace the stipulation regarding location of the school with a request.
Superintendent Dr. Frankie Poplau said the district will resume planning for a new school. However, the two-month delay in annexation means the school will not be ready for the start of the 2006-07 school year.
