Annual Christmas Concert is Sunday

Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer

There will be plenty of holiday music this weekend as the New Prague Community Christmas Concert is Sunday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Park Ballroom in New Prague.

The New Prague Area Historical Society sponsors this annual concert, which features the New Prague Community Band and Hymnus, a community based choir.

Sandy Gallagher is director of the Community Band, while Brian Carson is the director of Hymnus. Together, the two groups will provide a variety of holiday favorites.

The Community Band will play six pieces, ranging from music such as Winterfest to classics like White Christmas.

Hymnus, which began as one choir, now has three groups under its name and shares members between the three choirs: the Hymnus Festival Choir, the Hymnus Touring Choir and the Hymnus Chamber Choir.

Performing at the Christmas Concert will be the Hymnus Festival Choir and the Hymnus Touring Choir. The festival choir will sing four pieces, including A Charlie Brown Christmas and the traditional Hallelujah Chorus by George Frederic Handel. The touring choir will sing three pieces, including Exsultate Justi and Sicute Cervus, two musical selections they will sing at the Vatican during their trip to Italy in 2006.

Refreshments will be served after the concert. Tickets are available at the door. Those attending are asked to bring donations for New Prague’s local food shelf, the Peace Center.
