Another year in the books

As you’ve no doubt noticed, this is our annual Year in Review issue. Each year, we take time to reflect on some of the big stories of the past year.

Of course, there’s no way to cover everything that happened. Our staff sat down last week with a list of 15 stories, hoping to pick five to highlight. We picked four of those and added one more that was brought up during the meeting, but there was also talk about how many other changes there have been in the community. We discussed the new businesses and business owners, and all that they have brought to the community. We already know of one pending change that was announced last week and is scheduled to take place early in 2016, and we know we’ll have a similar discussion next year.

One of my favorite areas to cover is sports, but we stayed away from that in our list. The only one on our list of 15 was the high school state championships won by wrestler Griffin Parriott and golfer Taylor Ledwein. There were a number of other big sports stories, including the move to section football scheduling and the tougher competition it brought, along with the move of many other high school sports to a higher enrollment classification. It remains to be seen how the local sports teams are affected by these moves, but no doubt, the going will be tougher for them.

As we close the books on 2015, the staff at The New Prague Times is already getting ready for another year. It will be interesting to see what 2016 has in store for the community.
