Area figue skaters compete in Mankato
Members of the New Prague Area Figure Skating Club competed in the Bend of the River Competition in Mankato recently.
Skaters competed in Compulsory and Free Skating events. Compulsories consist of a set of required moves that skaters must complete while Free Skate is skaters skating to a program with music with required jumps, spins and moves but having more freedom to choreograph and show their personalities in program.
Taking first place in Compulsory events were Emma Beatrez and Nora Zvanovec. Taking third place were Kassie Vivant, Cara Pierce, and Sydney Koblas. Brooklyn Isley placed sixth.
In the Free Skate portion of the competition Emma Beatrez and Nora Zvanovec took first place. Cara Pierce and Sydney Koblas took second place while Morgan Brand took third. Brooklyn Isley and Kassie Vivant placed fourth. Sami Garofano and Katie Murphy both took fifth. Rachel Brandt and Jillian Weichert both competed in the Basic 6 portion of the completion and placed second and fourth respectively.
New Prague also hosted a testing event that allowed many skaters to test and advance in their skating skills. Passing Pre-Preliminary Moves in the Field were Morgan Brandt, Brooklynn Isley, and Ellen Popple. Mary Daly and Cara Pierce passed Pre-Preliminary Free Skating. Alexis Rivard passed Preliminary Moves in the Field and Lilly Schulte passed Preliminary Free Skating and Pre-Juvenile Moves in the Field. Katie Murphy also passed her Pre- Juvenile Moves in the Field. Emma Beatrez was successful in passing Pre-Juvenile Free Skating and Caroline Geiger passed her Juvenile Moves in the Field. Samantha Garofano passed her Intermediate Moves in the Field while McKenzie Trewartha passed her Juvenile Free Skating. Lastly Jenna Nelson passed her Adult Gold Moves in the Field and Adult Gold Free Skating.
The club continues to have skaters progressing at higher levels. The public is welcome to come watch their Spring Show, “On Broadway” Saturday, March 16, at 4 p.m. and Sunday, March 17, at 1 p.m. at the New Prague Area Community Center.
