Area honors generations of veterans

Veterans from the greatest generation to the latest generation were honored around the New Prague area on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.

New Prague Area Schools from the elementary schools to the high school held programs in the morning. Mala Strana Health Care Campus recognized its residents who served in the United States Armed Forces with a ceremony in the afternoon.

Members of the New Prague Veterans Honor Guard, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and their auxiliaries participated at the various events.

At the high school's program principal Tom Doig stated that fewer then 10 percent of Americans can claim they have served. He noted each and every veteran who served did so with a belief in the freedoms of the United States of America.

Senior Brandon Lord read an essay that won first in the New Prague Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary's Voices of Democracy contest. He said that veterans should be viewed as the defenders of America, they were people who stood up to atrocities and said, It ends today
