Arnold J. “Arnie” Ambroz, age 79
Arnold J. “Arnie” Ambroz, age 79, of New Prague, died Friday, February 10, 2017, surrounded by his family at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Arnie was born September 23, 1937 in Lanesburgh Township, Le Sueur County to Frank J. and Emma A. (Shetka) Ambroz, Jr. He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and graduated from New Prague High School.
Arnie married Rita M. Voracek on May 27, 1961, in New Market and the couple made their home in New Prague. Arnie entered the Army National Guard in 1960 and remained in service until 1965.
As the transportation supervisor for New Prague School District, he served countless children on their journey to and from school. Arnie was involved in many areas of the community as well, most notably as a member of the high school football chain gang, head usher for St. Wenceslaus Church, and a member of a number of sportsmen’s clubs.
He began a second career in grilling chicken, starting out with the KC Chicken BBQs, St. Wenceslaus Church Festival, and Veseli Ho-Down and eventually grilling for private parties. After retirement in 2000 from the New Prague School District, Arnie took up his favorite activity with many hours of fishing. His greatest joy and priority, however, was the time spent with his family.
Arnie is survived by his wife, Rita of New Prague; children, Chris (Kelly) Ambroz of Webster, Kim (Todd) Gores of Savage, Virginia “Gin” McLaughlin of Savage, Barb Novak (Pete Jirik) of New Prague; sisters, Bernice Tupy and Irene Unger, both of New Prague; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Emma Ambroz, Jr., brothers-in-law, Albert Unger & Joe Tupy; niece, Eileen Novak.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, February 15, 2017, St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague at 10 AM with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation took place Tuesday from 4-8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30-9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial occurred at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with military honors, followed by lunch at the KC Hall.
