Aurelia Mares honored as 2004 Scott County Outstanding Senior Citizen

There were many events at the Scott County Fair, but one special event was when Aurelia Mares of New Prague, was honored as Scott County’s Outstanding Senior Citizen for 2004.
The presentation was made on Friday, July 30, at the Gazebo at the fairground’s Town Square. With family and friends watching Mares received the award from Sen. Claire Robling (R-Jordan) for more than 25 years of volunteer work. The award is made each year to one man and woman who have volunteered many hours of service after the age of 65. Bob Wolf of Jordan was also honored.
Mares is a member of the Queen of Peace Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteers three hours a month, plus extra time if needed. She was honored for her work with the hospital auxiliary in 1998 when she was named Auxilian of the Year for her loyalty
