Barten, Pickens families overwhelmed with generosity at benefit breakfast

Volunteers at the Second Annual Roman Barten Memorial Breakfast on Sunday, March 29, at the KC Hall in New Prague were overwhelmed, but in a good way.

An estimated 800 people attended the event, which was a benefit for the family of Brooklyn Pickens, three-year old daughter of Nathan and Jennifer Pickens of New Prague. Brooklyn has diffuse arterial venous malformations in both lungs, which does not allow oxygen to be processed correctly and weakens her immune system.
