Baseball team picks up 5 wins

 

The TCU Baseball Team picked up five wins over the course of last week when it swept the Brooklyn Center Tournament on May 11, and again when they played Mayer Lutheran on Monday.

Mayer Lutheran 1
 
On Monday, the Titans travelled to Mayer Lutheran High School where TCU’s Trevor Smisek picked up another victory, pitching 5 strong innings, striking out 9, while walking 3 and giving up 3 hits.
Dave Trcka, Andy Feddema, and Aaron Dwyer each picked up two hits. Trcka had 3 RBIs, while Feddema and Dwyer each had 2 RBIs. 
Collecting one hit each were Pat Lloyd, Cole Pint, Ryan Iverson, Ted Christian, and Joe Kalina.

Mayer Lutheran 1
 
In the second game of the doubleheader, Ted Christian picked up this third Minnesota River Conference victory with another excellent effort, said Titan Coach Bruce Davis. 
 
“Ted struck out 7 and walked 0. He gave up 6 hits. Ted has not walked a batter the entire season,” Davis commented.
Dwyer picked up 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Lloyd and  Feddema also had two hits each. Feddema also had 3 RBIs. Cole Pint and Austin Buss each had one hit for TCU
 
TCU 11
Brooklyn Center 0
 
Over the weekend, the Titans participated in the Brooklyn Center Tournament. The Titans swept the tourney against Brooklyn Center and Columbia Heights.
At the tourney, Cole Pint picked up his first varsity victory pitching 7 strong innings. He pitched 7 innings striking out 13 hitters and walking 0 while giving up 2 hits.
Pint also picked up 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Dwyer, Lloyd, Joe Kalina, Joe Rynda, and Christian each picked up one hit.

Columbia Heights 0
 
In the second game, TCU’s Jake Johnson was outstanding on the mound for TCU, Davis commented. Jake faced the minimum number of hitters in 5 innings. Jake gave up one hit in the 3rd inning. The next batter hit into a double play, and Jake struck out 6 and walked 0 in the complete game victory.
Pint picked up 3 hits and 5 RBIs in the game. Lloyd, Ryan Iverson, Dave Trcka, Kalina, Matt Holicky, and  Feddema each had two hits. Dwyer hit a home run in the 1st inning to get the TCU offense going.
 
TCU 2
Sibley East  3
 
On May 9, the Titans took on Sibley East, losing the first game of the doubleheader, then coming back to win the second.
Rynda was the starting pitcher for TCU and took the loss. 
 
“Joe pitched well, striking out 5 and walking 4 while giving up 3 hits,” Davis said.
TCU picked up 3 hits. Pat Lloyd, Cole Pint, and Joe Kalina each had one. 
 
TCU 5
Sibley East 4
 
In the second game, Buss drove in the winning run in the last inning to secure a TCU victory. Buss was 3-3 in the game with one RBI. Pat Lloyd picked up two hits, while Pint picked up one hit with 3 RBIs.
Trcka started on the mound for TCU, pitching 4.2 innings. Johnson came in to get the win for TCU pitcing 1.1 innings in relief.
 
Home game
 
The baseball team will have their first home game of the short season on Thursday, May 16 when they host Watertown Mayer at Memorial Park Baseball Field.
