Baseball team tops Tigers, beat Bison

The New Prague Trojan baseball squad picked up a pair of wins last week, defeating Farmington and Buffalo, then lost a Missota Conference game to Farmington on Monday. New Prague is now 2-4 on the season (1-4 Missota).

The Trojans were scheduled to play at Holy Angels Wednesday, April 27. They play Chaska at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Chanhassen, and will host Willmar in a doubleheader at 4:15 p.m. Monday, May 2. New Prague hosts Shakopee at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, and Chanhassen at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4.

Trojans 9, Tigers 6

Farmington had the lead three times in this game, but New Prague kept battling back and took control with a four-run sixth inning for a 9-6 win at Farmington Thursday, April 21.

Trailing 2-0, the Trojans scored twice in the second inning. Joe Lehman and Derrick Isaacson walked and Luke Busch singled to load the bases. Scott Allar followed with a base hit and Joe Morris hit a sacrifice fly. The third run scored on a balk.

New Prague trailed 4-3, but tied it in the fourth. Isaacson walked and stole second. Busch had a base hit and Allar followed with a sacrifice fly.

Trailing 5-4, the Trojans tied the game in the fifth. Curt Brezina had a leadoff double and scored on a hit by Sean Ingebretson.

The Trojans had four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Busch and Allar led off with base hits, and Morris reached on an error to load the bases. Ben Trewartha hit into a groundout, bringing in one run, then Brezina singled. Tyler Beuning struck out, but the ball got past the catcher and allowing a run to score. Brezina came home when Ingebretson reached on an error.

Trewartha was the starting pitcher and went four innings. He allowed five hits and five runs, three of them earned, while striking out four for the win. Beuning pitched three innings of relief, allowing an unearned run, and two hits while striking out four to get the save.

New Prague had 11 hits, with Brezina and Busch getting three each. Allar had two and Beuning, Lehman and Ingebretson had one each.

Trojans 6, Bison 3

New Prague scored in each of the last four innings to take a 6-3 win over Buffalo Saturday in Buffalo.

The Trojans scored a run in the second when Ingebretson singled and scored on an error.

Buffalo led 3-1, but the Trojans scored one in the fourth, with Ben Doerr getting a base hit, advancing on an error and scoring on a groundout by Allar.

The Trojans took the lead in the fifth. Trewartha had a leadoff walk and Tyler Busch sacrificed him to second. Brezina singled and Ingebretson had a base hit to bring in a run. Luke Busch followed with a hit to bring in the other run.

New Prague got one in the sixth, with Allar getting hit by a pitch and scoring on a hit by Trewartha, and one more in the seventh when Lehman singled and scored on a base hit by Nick Sampson.

Brezina pitched five innings to take the win. He struck out six and allowed four hits and three runs, one earned. Lehman got the save, pitching two innings of hitless ball while striking out one.

New Prague had nine hits. Ingebretson and Doerr had two each, and Trewartha, Lehman, Brezina, Busch and Sampson had one each.

Raiders 9, Trojans 1

Two errors led to a six-run third inning as Northfield defeated New Prague 9-1 Monday at New Prague.

The Trojans got their only run in the third, with Joe Morris reaching on an error and scoring on a groundball by Tyler Beuning.

The Trojans had just two hits, by Morris and Matt Holden.

Beuning started and went went 2-2/3 innings, allowing three hits and six runs to take the loss. He struck out two. Sampson allowed four hits and three runs while striking out one in 3-1/3 innings and Holden gave up one hit while striking out two in one inning.
