Benjamin Bartusek, 99

Benjamin E. Bartusek, 99, of New Prague, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at the Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague. Ben was born on November 16, 1912, in W h e a t l a n d Township, Rice County, a son of Mathias and Mary (Lukes) Bartusek. He attended country school and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School. He married Marcella Tupy on June 6, 1939, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Ben farmed on the home farm until 1976, when he and Marcella moved to New Prague. He was a member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Catholic Workman, the Holstein Friesen Assn. and Poland China Swine Record Assn. He helped organize the Rice County Pork Producers and served on the MN Valley Ag Co-op Board and the Rural Fire Truck Assn. Board. He also served on the parish council of St. Wenceslaus Church. For pasttimes, Ben liked to garden, play cards and watch sporting events. He is survived by children Ben (Jean) Bartusek Jr., New Prague, John (Shirley) Bartusek, Le Center, and Mary Jane Bartusek-Kessler (Bill), Cedar Falls, IA; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister Helen Novotny, Hastings. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 8, 2006; his parents; and two sisters Bessie and Mayme Sticha. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating. Interment is at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers are grandsons Keith, Jeff, Mark, Matt and Mike Bartusek and great-grandson Adam Bartusek. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
