Berg qualifies for 4th state ski meet
New Prague High School senior Maria Berg qualified for her fourth consecutive Minnesota State High School League Nordic Ski meet by placing ninth at the Section 1 ski meet Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Hyland Hills Ski Area in Bloomington.
Berg will compete at the state meet Thursday, Feb. 11, at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik.
She finished the morning classic race in 12th place and moved up in the afternoon skate race to finish ninth overall. The top two teams and the next six individuals qualify for the state meet. Berg claimed the fourth individual spot.
Section 1 features the No. 1-ranked skier in the state and the No. 5 and No. 8- ranked teams in Eastview and Burnsville.
Berg competed in the regular season on a coop team with Prior Lake, however the two schools must separate during the post-season. That meant while Berg was wearing Prior Lake colors, she was skiing for her own school. She and three of her Prior Lake teammates, one girl and two boys, are competing at the state meet.
Berg was the only Trojan competing in the girls meet. New Prague finished 11th of 12 teams, ahead of Apple Valley. Eastview won the meet, with Burnsville taking second.
