Bianca Najera named to national honor concert band

Bianca Najera, a senior at New Prague High School, has been selected by Music for All to perform in one of the nation's finest honor ensembles, the 2009 Honor Band of America. Najera was selected from numerous applicants from across the nation for membership in this prestigious honors ensemble.

The daughter of Ruben and Melissa Najera, Bianca is a member of the New Prague High School concert band, jazz band, polka band, marching band, saxophone quartet and flute choir under the direction of Sandy Gallagher.

The Honor Band of America will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. The 2009 Honor Band of America is a 92-piece national ensemble that will rehearse and perform under the direction of Gary W. Hill, Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Arizona State University.

The Honor Band of America is part of the Music for All National Festival, presented by Yamaha, March 19-21, in Indianapolis. The festival includes the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival, the Orchestra America National Festival, the National Percussion Festival, and the Middle School National Music Festival, taking place simultaneously in major venues throughout Indianapolis.

Najera recently performed as principal flutist in the 2008-2009 Minnesota All State Symphonic band. She is also a member of the Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra and Mankato Area Youth Symphony Orchestra.
