Bloodmobile visits New Prague May 31

The American Red Cross is experiencing a shortage of Type O and Rh-negative blood types this week. With Memorial Day weekend and the summer holidays approaching – traditionally times when blood is in short supply – it is critical that these supplies be replenished.

People can donate at the bloodmobile when it stops in New Prague on Wednesday, May 31, at New Prague Alliance Church, 830 Fourth Ave. SW, from 1-7 p.m.

Because Type O blood saves more lives than any other blood type – especially Type O-negative, which is called the universal donor because it can be transfused to any blood type safely – it is always needed on hospital shelves.

Rh-negative blood is also important, because it’s the only type that can be safely transfused to Rh-negative patients, especially Rh-negative women of childbearing age.

People are asked to make a generous blood donation to help shore up supplies to hospitals and the patients they serve. A person’s single donation is a powerful gift that can help save up to three lives.
