Board hears update on school construction

During the October 24 meeting of the New Prague Area School Board, Superintendent Tim Dittberner reported that construction at the Central Education Campus and Middle School building is proceeding at a good pace, and is slightly ahead of schedule.

"We are still on target for the sixth grade to transition to the new classrooms in late December," Dittberner reported. "We’re pretty much past the point where we have to worry about weather issues. Right now, they’re digging the pool, and work on the district office seems to be changing weekly. We’re also on target for a late December completion there."

He reported that he would be at the City’s planning commission meeting on October 26 as the district is asking for a change in an existing Conditional Use Permit that would allow the middle school tennis courts to be moved to the area west of First Ave. NW, where an outdoor hockey rink once stood. That would clear the way for expansion of the district’s bus garage.

"Right now, the CUP calls for the land by First Ave. to be used for parking, but with our new layout at the CEC, we’ll have more.....
