Board hires Rouse as superintendent

With no debate and little discussion, the New Prague Area School Board voted Thursday to offer the superintendent's position to Jim Rouse, who has served as interim superintendent since August.

At the beginning of its meeting, the board amended its agenda to remove discussion of a superintendent search and instead offered a contract to Rouse for the 2007-08 school year, thus eliminating interim from his job title.

The action removes some uncertainty for the future of the district, which is facing a crucial operating levy referendum this fall.

The executive committee of the school board, 2006 chair Dan Carlson and vice chair Tom Fadden, along with 2007 chair Bob Reed, met with Rouse on Wednesday and told him they were recommending his hiring to the full board.

We discussed the executive structure of the board for the coming year and also touched on the superintendent search and the contract issue
