Bomb scare evacuates NPHS

A New Prague Police car blocks off an entrance to New Prague High School the morning of Thursday, Feb. 14. Law enforcement officials searched the school after a note with a bomb threat was found in a boy’s bathroom. Students were evacuated to New Prague Area Community Center and Gymnastics Center across the street and began returning to the school shortly after 9 a.m.

A bomb scare the morning of Thursday, Feb. 14, sent New Prague High School into a flurry of action. Students were evacuated, the school went into lockdown and law enforcement officials searched through the building at 221 12th St. NE.

Principal Tom Doig said a note indicating there was a bomb was found in a boy’s bathroom. The approximately 1,200 students were evacuated to the New Prague Area Community Center and the Gymnastics Center, located across the street from the building.

Doig said the building was in lockdown as law enforcement searched the structure. During the search two New Prague Police vehicles blocked 12th Street. Around 9:08 a.m. faculty started to let students back into the building.
