The Cannon Falls Bombers ended the TCU Titans’ playoff run in the first round of the Section 1AAA football tournament on Tuesday in Montgomery.

TCU 7   19   0   0  = 26
CF    7    7    7   8  = 29

The Titans fell to #7 seeded Bombers who came to the contest with a 2-6 overall record.
Titan Coach Ken Helland called the loss disappointing, but he did tell the team that they had done a lot of good things during the season.

“When we went into this game we knew they had a good team who had lost some of their games by a point,” he said. “They had a good passing team that made better plays.”

The Titans started the game on a positive foot on their first possession with  quarterback Ted Christian’s 27-yard pass to Charley Simonette. A 13-yard pass to receiver Mason Brownlee moved the chains for the TCU team before their third play found Pat Lloyd breaking free from the pack for a 32-yard run touchdown. Omar Lopez’s kick for the extra point was also good.

The Bombers answered with a couple of plays that included quarterback Hunter Thompson’s 42-yard touchdown pass to running back Jordan Lundell. It followed with an extra point kick.

The first quarter ended with a 7-7 tie.

The Titans had their best movement in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns in the segment alone. The points came from Ted Christian’s 20-yard pass to Pat Lloyd, a pass to Mason Brownlee who ran it 54 yards for a touchdown, and a 16-yard pass to Jamison Beulke. That was the Titans final scoring for the rest of the game.
The Titan defense held the Bombers to one touchdown in the second quarter when Brock Peterson received a 65-yard pass for a Bomber touchdown.

After the half, both teams struggled to move the ball at times, but the Bombers kept their momentum going by taking advantage of a TCU turnover that they ran 40-yards for a touchdown.

The fourth quarter found the Titans still in the lead 26-21, but unable to keep scoring. With six minutes into the quarter, the Bombers carried it over one yard for the touchdown, and their two-point conversion sealed their win.

The home team kept fighting until the end in the fourth quarter when they had a chance to score again when Brownlee intercepted a Bomber pass. He fumbled the ball, but his teammates recovered it. Then, with a minute left of the game, and trailing by three points, the Titans continued to move the chains with short successful passes to Lloyd and John Christian. With seconds left in the game, the screaming audience on its feet, the Titans had possession on the nine-yard line. It looked like the the team was going to tie the game with a field goal by Lopez, but the Titans fumbled the snap, forcing Ted Christian to pass the ball.
