Borchardt wins one for varsity wrestling

Seventh grader, Dylan Borchardt, had a memorable wrestling match on Thursday, Jan. 3 when TCU wrestled against Sibley East.   

“Winning for the Titans was Dylan Borchardt, a 7th grader, who recorded his first varsity win of his career,” said Coach Brian Mikel.

While Borchardt did well on the matt, the team did not, losing 21-48 to host Sibley East. 

Mikel said fellow Titan Chris Guajardo had a big pin at 120 pounds. “He keeps improving,” Mikel said. 

Levi Nelson also had nice hard-fought win at 126 pounds, while Mason Brownlee came up a bit short in overtime losing a close 7-6 decision. 

Marko Arroyo, who had bumped up a weight to 160 pounds, picked up a win at that level. Ninth grader Alex Burns came from behind to pin his opponent at 285.  “Overall we still have work to do getting back into wrestling shape from the holiday layoff. We looked sluggish at times,” Mikel said. “We did however see improvement in other areas.  We did not give up the big points in as many matches.  Our physical toughness has gotten a bit better.  Again, we still have a ways to go, but the kids are working hard.”

113 - Dylan Borchardt over Logan Tesch of Sibley East in a 12-5 decision.

120 - Chris Guajardo over Sibley East’s Mitch Heibel, fall at 3:01.

126 - Levi Nelson over Nathan Thomas of Sibley East in a 6-3 decision.

132 - Jason Meyer of Sibley East over Isak Figuroa of TCU in fall at 1:26.

138 - Hunter Retzlaff over Mason Brownlee in a 7-6 decision after three overtimes.

145 - Mitch Wentzlaff of Sibley East over Max Arroyo in a 6-4 decision.

152 - Jake Wentzlaff over TCU’s  Jordan Simonette in fall at 2:42.

160: Marko Arroyo over Austin Kube of Sibley East in a 4-3 decision.

170: Aaron Bates over Kyle Hubert of TCU in a fall at 3:12.

182: Nolan Osborne of Sibley East over Joe Kalina in a fall at 1:40.

195: Brandon Ashton won by forfeit.

220: Miah DuFrane won by forfeit.

285: Alex Burns over Clay  Mogard of in a fall at 2:58.
