Boys cage team wins 2 of 3

New Prague's boys basketball team took two of three games last week. They won two non-conference contests against Section 1AAA foes, and lost a Missota Conference matchup with Farmington.

The Trojans (7-5, 0-2 Missota) were scheduled to host Red Wing Tuesday, Jan. 23. On Friday, Jan. 26, they host Prior Lake, and they play at home against Shakopee on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Trojans 61, Albert Lea Tigers 58

New Prague went to overtime to defeat the host Tigers 61-58 at Albert Lea Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The game was close throughout, with Albert Lea leading 30-28 at halftime. Adam Michel scored 28 points, including seven of the team's nine points in the extra session. His outside shooting kept the Trojans in the game in the first half, when he hit four three-pointers.

Tony Johnson added 16 points for New Prague in the win.

Farmington Tigers 60, Trojans 37

Farmington broke open a close game by outscoring the Trojans 36-15 in the second half enroute to a 60-37 win.

The Tigers led by just two at halftime, as the Trojans kept pace behind Johnson's eight points and Michel's five.

But New Prague had trouble finding the basket in the second half, managing just six field goals and shooting two of 11 from the free throw line. Johnson was the only Trojan in double figures with 15 points, while Michel had nine and Brad Weiers came off the bench to score six points.

Trojans 61, Falcons 48

This time it was New Prague's turn to break open a close game in the second half. New Prague was leading by one at halftime and outscored the Falcons 32-20 in the second half.

Johnson again led the Trojans, scoring a season-high 28 points. Michel added nine and Danny Geiger eight.
