Boys hockey team splits Missota games

While most teams were busy with holiday tournaments last week, the New Prague High School boys hockey team played a pair of Missota Conference games last week. The Trojans lost to Northfield, then came back with an impressive win over Shakopee Saturday.

New Prague (7-3-0, 1-2-0 Missota) will return to the ice at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, when they face Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato in Litchfield. New Prague plays at Hutchinson on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

Raiders 4, Trojans 2

New Prague gave up two third-period goals and lost to Northfield 4-2 at the Northfield Arena Thursday, Dec. 27.

The Raiders opened the scoring with a goal at 6:20 of the first period, but freshman Darren Lapic countered with a power play goal a little more than a minute later to tie the game at 1-1. Northfield took a 2-1 lead with a goal in the final minute of the period.

Freshman Seth Ambroz tied it at 2-2 with a goal at 13:41 of the second period, with Mitch Lunder getting an assist.

But the Raiders came out firing in the third period and scored just 1:18 into the period to take the lead for good. New Prague kept things close and pulled goaltender Collin Schoenecker in the final minute for an extra attacker, but Northfield scored on an empty net at 16:44 to ice the game.

The Trojans outshot Northfield 30-25. Schoenecker stopped 21 of the 24 shots he faced.

Trojans 10, Sabers 2

New Prague stopped its two-game losing streak with a 10-goal explosion to defeat Shakopee 10-2 Saturday afternoon at the New Prague Area Community Center.

The Trojans got four goals in the first period, with Tyler Lapic, Schyler Adams and Treven Smith scoring the first three goals. Lapic added a shorthanded goal at 15:50 to make it 4-0 at the first intermission.

Darren Lapic and Ambroz got in on the scoring fun in the first three minutes of the second period. Ambroz' power play goal, at 2:29, made it a 6-0 game.

Shakopee came back with two goals in a little more than a minute, but the Trojans shut the door on the Sabers from that point on. Tyler Lapic completed his hat trick with a goal at 16:11.

The Trojans got three goals in the third period, with Drew Feuk getting two of those and Tyler Witty the other.

Tyler Lapic finished with three goals and two assists, while Adams had a goal and three assists. Darren Lapic and Ambroz each had a goal and two assists, and Alec Doig had two assists.

New Prague outshot Shakopee 38-21, with Schoenecker getting 19 saves.
