Boys hockey team tames Tigers

The New Prague Trojans scored three third-period goals to defeat Delano/ Rockford 4-1 in a non-conference boys hockey game Friday, Dec. 19.

The win gives the Trojans a 4-2 record going into their Missota Conference opener with Northfield. That game was scheduled to be played in New Prague Tuesday, Dec. 23, after this edition of The Times went to press.

New Prague will be in action next week at the Little Falls Tournament, a four-team round-robin tournament hosted by the No. 2-ranked team in Class A. The Trojans are ranked No. 19. The first round game will be played Monday, Dec. 29, at 4 p.m. against Prior Lake. The game will be a home game for the Lakers and count in the Missota Conference standings. On Tuesday, Dec. 30, the Trojans face Section 1A rival Faribault at 4 p.m. On Wednesday, Dec. 31, the Trojans will close out the 2008 portion of their schedule against the host Flyers at 7 p.m.

New Prague scored two goals early in the third period to break open a tie contest on their way to a 4-1 win over Delano/Rockford.

Schyler Adams had the game-winner at 4:20 of the third period, notching his second goal of the night and ninth of the season. Darren Lapic and Mitch Lunder assisted.

Lapic scored a little more than a minute later, with an assist from Cody Meyer at 5:33. Treven Smith added a marker at 11:44, unassisted.

Adams scored the game's first goal at 13:25 of the first period, with an assist from Smith, but the Tigers tied it early in the second.

Delano/Rockford outshot the Trojans 24-19, but Trojan goaltender Joe Morris played a strong game. The freshman notched his third win of the season against one loss, making 23 saves.
