Boys hockey wins 3 more, goes to 13-3-0

The New Prague/Montgomery-Lonsdale boys hockey team won three more games last week, giving them a 13-3-0 record on the season. New Prague defeated New Ulm, Farmington and Prior Lake.

The Trojans were scheduled to face Red Wing Tuesday evening. They will travel to Prior Lake Friday for a 7 p.m. game, then host Shakopee on Tuesday, Jan. 30, also at 7 p.m.

Trojans 5, Eagles 0

New Prague traveled to New Ulm Tuesday, Jan. 16, and brought home a 5-0 victory over the Eagles.

Shots were close to even in the first period, but the Trojans got the only two goals. Brad Benson got on the board first for the Trojans, with an assist to Tyler Lapic, at 9:37. Seth Ambroz followed with a goal at 14:03, on an assist from Ryan Witty.

The Trojans outshot the Eagles 21-3 in the second period, putting constant pressure on the Eagle goaltender. However, the only goal came on a power play at 6:06, with Neal Eaton scoring from Drew Feuk and Schyler Adams.

Witty and Ambroz scored the only goals of the third period for New Prague. The Trojans outshot New Ulm 42-18 for the game. Brandon Palma got the shutout in goal, his second shutout of the season.

Trojans 4, Tigers 2

Lapic scored the game-winner for the Trojans with less than three minutes remaining, and Witty added an empty-net goal as the Trojans defeated Farmington 4-2 at Farmington Thursday.

The Trojans never trailed in this game, but the Tigers stayed close. Witty opened the scoring with a goal at 1:50 of the first period and that held up through the first 17 minutes.

Farmington tied the game at 1-1 early in the second, but Sam Olson put the Trojans back in front, with his first goal of the season just one minute later. The Tigers would tie the game with 31 seconds left in the period.

The game-winner came after a scramble in front of the Tiger net. Lapic found a loose puck and flipped it past the Tiger goaltender at 14:22 of the final period. The Trojans were called for a penalty with less than two minutes remaining, giving Farmington a 6-on-4 advantage after they pulled their goalie. But Witty got control of the puck in his own zone and sent it to the far side of the rink for an empty net goal.

The Trojans outshot the Tigers 26-17, with Palma getting 15 saves for the Trojans.

Trojans 6, Lakers 1

New Prague had goals from six different players as they defeated Prior Lake 6-1 at home Saturday.

New Prague had goals from Matt Perkinson, Nate Thomas, Feuk, Lapic, Colton Borwege and Witty. Kurt Palma and Bryce Bartelt had two assists each for the Trojans, who outshot the Lakers 28-20. Brandon Palma had 19 saves.
