Boys top Lakers; tie Raiders

The New Prague Trojan boys hockey team defeated Prior Lake and tied Northfield in a pair of Missota Conference games last week.

The Trojans (10-5-1, 3-2-1 Missota) were scheduled to play at Hutchinson Tuesday. They have a key matchup with Red Wing at the New Prague Area Community Center Friday, Jan. 29, then play at Farmington Monday, Feb. 1. New Prague plays at Holy Angels on Thursday, Feb. 4.

Trojans 3, Lakers 1

New Prague wasted no time in asserting itself, scoring just 39 seconds into the game against Prior Lake. Adam Corr got the goal, with an assist from Tyler Witty.

Witty made it 2-0 with a power play goal in the second period at 4:51, with assists going to Zach Adams and Thomas Fadden.

The Lakers made things close with a goal midway through the third period. But New Prague scored at 16:18, with freshman Cody Meyer finding the empty net.

Joe Morris got the win in goal, stopping 20 of 21 shots. New Prague outshot the Lakers 22-19.

Raiders 2, Trojans 2

New Prague outshot Northfield 38-21, but ran into a hot goaltender and ended up with a 2-2 overtime tie Friday, Jan. 22, at New Prague.

New Prague put some heavy pressure on Northfield in the first period, outshooting the Raiders 11-4, but Northfield got the only goal of the period at 4:46.

Witty got his team on the board with a goal at 14:25 of the second period. Meyer and Fadden got the assists.

Cole Mason scored a power play goal 31 seconds into the third period to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead. Witty and Adams got the assists. But Northfield went on the power play midway through the period and scored just 10 seconds into the man advantage, making it 2-2. The Trojans killed off a penalty that carried over from the third period into overtime, then had a man advantage in the final two minutes, but lost it with a penalty of their own just 45 seconds later.

New Prague had a 6-2 advantage in shots in the extra session. Morris stopped 19 of 21 shots for New Prague.
