Boys weather the Storm, top Tigers

The New Prague Trojan boys basketball team won two games last week upping their season record to 15-4, and giving them a 3-2 Missota Conference record.

The Trojans, ranked No. 10 in Class AAA, defeated Chanhassen and Farmington. They were scheduled to host Northfield Tuesday, Feb. 1. New Prague travels to Holy Angels Friday, Feb. 4, to complete their first round of Missota Conference games, then host Prior Lake in a non-conference game Thursday, Feb. 10, in the second game of a boy-girl doubleheader.

Trojans 53, Storm 46

New Prague went on a 15-3 run early in the second half to overcome a 34-29 Chanhassen lead and the Trojans went on to defeat the Storm 53-46.

Chanhassen played well in the first half, but the Trojans kept pace as Cale Girten scored 17 first-half points. He was held scoreless in the second half, but continued to contribute. He finished the game with eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

Also scoring for the Trojans were Jed Kreuser and Jake Mayer (10 points each), Trevor O'Brien (5), Joe Hatch and Alex Dittberner (4 each) and Luke Busch (3).

Meyer also had eight rebounds for the Trojans, while O'Brien came off the bench with six rebounds and two blocked shots. Kreuser had four steals and three assists and Dittberner had four assists.

Trojans 50, Tigers 30

New Prague played strong defense, forcing 21 Farmington turnovers. They built a 33-15 halftime lead and kept up the defensive pressure in the second half.

Kreuser led the Trojans with 17 points, while Hatch had 11 and Girten 10. Hatch and Kreuser both went six-of-six from the free throw line as the Trojans shot 16 of 19 (84 percent) from the stripe. Also scoring for the Trojans were O'Brien and Mayer (four points each) and Joe Soderlund and Jacob Ouradnik (two points each) Girten had 12 rebounds and Meyer 10. Kreuser had four steals and Hatch had three assists.
