Brandels celebrate 70 years of marriage
Eighteen family members gathered at the Praha Haus Family Restaurant on Thursday, May 10, to honor Lawrence and Angela Brandel of New Prague for 70 years of marriage.
While their anniversary won't be until June 14, it was decided to hold the celebration last week since many family members were in the area.
The Brandels were married June 14, 1937, at St. Andrew's Church in Fairfax. They are long-time New Prague area residents, having farmed outside the city. In the 1950s, they operated Brandel's Bar in the building that currently houses Miller's Tap.
Two of the couple's three children, Helen Pomije of Montgomery and John Brandel of Shakopee, were at the celebration. Son Michael, of New Prague, could not be there.
Entertainment was provided by the Brandel's grandson, Ken Pomije, who played the accordion, and several other friends who showed up to play music for the event.
