Break-in reported at Franke's Bakery

Early Wednesday morning, May 22, Franke's Bakery Owner Bob Franke went into work at his usual 2 a.m. time and found the family business had been broken into and robbed overnight. He reported the crime to the Montgomery Police Department, and the report states that the thief/thieves entered through a back window and took a small amount of cash that was left in the cash register. There was minor damage reported at the store.

This is the second business reporting a robbery in just over a week, as Edel's Meat Market was broken into on Monday night, May 13. In addition, the Locker Plant reported an attempted break-in on the same day as Franke's, and at least two other businesses have reported suspicious activity. Whether or not the break-ins are related is being investigated and the police are currently following leads. Anyone with information should call the Montgomery Police Department at 507-364-8000.

Franke's Bakery has been in business on Montgomery's 1st Street for 99 years and Bob's mother, Jule Franke, said the shop had been broken into only one other time several years ago. She added that they are making sure their windows and doors are as secure as possible so this doesn't happen again.
