Bucks and butter for Traxler

Samantha Traxler, 18, of Le Center sat in a cooler at the Minnesota State Fair on Tuesday, August 29 to have her likeness sculpted in a block of butter.

Traxler was one of 12 young women to compete for the title of Minnesota’s 64th Princess Kay of the Milky Way on August 23. The 2016 Tri-City United High School graduate represented Le Sueur County. She is the daughter of Brian and Patty Pettis and Brian and Heather Traxler.

Nineteen-year-old Emily Annexstad, a college student from St. Peter, representing Nicollet County, was crowned Princess Kay of the Milky Way. Jessica Zuidema of Blomkest, representing Kandiyohi County, and Margaret Socha of Corcoran, representing Wright County, were selected as runners-up.

But, Traxler did not leave the stage empty handed. The University of Wisconsin-River Falls student was awarded one of three $500 scholarships awarded during the pageant. Annexstad and Zuidema also received scholarships.
“I feel very honored to be recognized as a scholarship recipient,” stated Traxler, who works alongside her mother on the Blue Sky Dairy Farm in Cleveland.

Traxler enjoys showing cows and mentoring 4-H youth. This year, Traxler earned numerous awards at the Le Sueur County Fair, including Overall Champion of the Dairy Show, and earned a ribbon for her heifer at the State Fair.

Traxler credits her experiences in 4-H, dairy judging, FFA, and high school Speech with helping her find her voice in agriculture. After college, Traxler plans to grow a dairy farm with her brother.

Traxler said she plans to use her butter likeness to give back to the community.

“My plan for my butter sculpture is to use it for my 4-H pancake breakfast. I might also have a sweet corn feed. Both of these are community events that will allow me to give back to the community that has supported me so much,” she said.
