Cagers defeat Red Wing, lose to Prior Lake

New Prague split a pair of Missota Conference boys basketball games last week.

The Trojans defeated Red Wing Tuesday, Jan. 23, then lost to Prior Lake on Friday, Jan. 26.

The Trojans (8-6, 1-3 Missota) were scheduled to host a powerful Shakopee team Tuesday. They play at Holy Angels Friday, Feb. 2, then host Hutchinson Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Trojans 50, Wingers 48

Danny Geiger hit a basket with 13 seconds remaining to give the Trojans a two-point lead, and when Red Wing missed a late shot, Tony Johnson collected the rebound with less than a second remaining to secure the win for the Trojans.

It was New Prague's first win over Red Wing since 1997, when the Trojans defeated the Wingers in the Section 1AAA championship game.

Red Wing got off to a good start, but New Prague kept plugging away. The Trojans trailed by five points at halftime, using a balanced attack to keep pace.

New Prague closed the gap in the second half, and the two teams played evenly. With the score tied 48-48, Geiger picked up an offensive rebound and put it in his only basket of the night to provide the winning points.

Adam Michel and Johnson led the Trojans with 12 points each, while Brad Weiers came off the bench to score eight points, six of those in the second half.
