Catherine Slavik, 91

Catherine R. “Kay” Slavik, 91, of New Prague, died T h u r s d a y, Aug. 25, 2011, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague.

Born September 27, 1919, at Le Center, Kay was a daughter of Paul and Agnes (Genelin) Schloesser. Raised in the Le Center area, she attended Le Sueur County Country School, and married Stanley J. Slavik on June 1, 1940, at Le Center. They lived in West St. Paul after marriage and then moved to New Prague. Kay worked at the Torchlight Supper Club, Park Ballroom, Bilek Bakery and finally as a cook for New Prague High School, retiring from cooking at the school when she was 75. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed playing cards.

She is survived by three children Charles (Elaine) Slavik, Tucson, AZ, Constance (Tom) Fitzke, New Prague, and Thomas (Renee) Slavik, Scottsdale, AZ; Four grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and siblings Sister Agnes Paul, St. Paul, and Robert Schloesser, West St. Paul.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 4, 1980; her parents; and 10 siblings Mark, Alphonse, Paul Jr., John, Joe and Aloysius Schloesser, Sabina DeGonda, Christine DeGonda, Susan Berger and Mary Slavik.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m., at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague, with Rev. David Barrett officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were grandchildren Deb May, Dan Fitzke and Nancy Laffen, Godchildren John Slavik and Mary Ann Aufderhar, and son-in-law Tom Fitzke.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
