Centralizing city street work

Central Avenue N in front of New Prague City Hall has been flipped as most of the work on the north end of the street near Second Street NE has been completed. The contractor, Chard Tiling & Excavating Inc., recently began work on the south end of Central Avenue N near Main Street.

Chard Tiling & Excavating crews have also begun work on the parking lot south of City Hall. The work has included removal of the asphalt in the street and the parking lot.

Access to City Hall is now from the north end of the building, the front entrance. Area residents can get to the building by driving along First Avenue NW and then going west on First Street NW, which was recently completed. Vehicles can be parked in the new parking lot north of City Hall. Access can also be gained by the north end of Central Avenue N, although construction vehicles in the area will slow travel.

Other work being done is on First Street NE, from First Avenue NE to Central Avenue N. Residents along the street will still have access to their homes. Work on the commercial alley between Central Avenue N and First Avenue NE will be done at a later time. To make up for lost time due to the wet weather, Chard Tiling & Excavating expects to do some work on Saturdays. Work will not be done Thursday, July 4, through Saturday, July 6, due to the holiday.

The weekly progress meeting for the street project continues to be held at 1 p.m. every Thursday at City Hall. Residents who have concerns can address them then or should contact the resident project representative Gary Lauwagie.
