Chamber of Commerce organizational meeting to be held Thursday

A meeting to organize a Chamber of Commerce will be held Thursday, May 19, at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Club in Montgomery.

“Looking to the future of Montgomery, it is time to organize a Chamber of Commerce,” stated Rick Lea and Connie White Tupy, who authored a letter that was sent out to local businesses last week.

Chamber of Commerce members include any interested business, person or nonprofit organizations. Members are those that share a common concern in regard to the socioeconomic status of a community. Some of the benefits of a Chamber are a publicity booth, welcoming new residents to the community, receiving online listings, and networking opportunities.

Lea and Tupy clarified that there are no limits or restrictions placed on the number or kinds of members that can make up a Chamber of Commerce, and these people join forces for the purpose of getting things accomplished.

“The Chamber is run by its members,” they stated. “They select a Board of Directors whose job is to determine policies, procedures and set goals.”

The process of a forming a Chamber of Commerce in Montgomery has already started with a federal id number being established and an account being opened. Now they are looking for interested members.

“Let’s move Montgomery another step forward!” Lea and Tupy stated. “We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.”
