The changing seasons...

By Chuck Kajer, Managing Editor

The 2010 legislative session ended last week and less than 24 hours after the final gavel sounded in St. Paul, filing began for the 2010 elections.

This year, all state executive offices and all house and senate seats are on the ballot, along with county officers, some county commissioners and judicial seats.

With one week to go in the filing period as this is written, many of the contests are beginning to take shape. For those interested in running for city office, that filing period will take place later this summer.

Serving in these positions requires a tremendous time commitment, and for most positions, the pay is small in relation to the hours worked on the job. Still, the urge to serve is strong, and we should be grateful for their efforts. Even if we disagree with the views of a candidate or an elected official, we need to respect their desire to serve.

Already, the boys tennis team has begun its playoffs, while adapted softball, baseball and softball get underway this week. Next week it will be golf and track getting underway. We look forward to covering these events and urge you to look to go to newpraguetimes.com and check Just Posted to find out the latest scores and upcoming schedules for Trojan sports.
