Charles Brewster, 79

Charles E. Gene Brewster, 79, of Montgomery, formerly of New Prague, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Community Baptist Church in New Prague, with Rev. Gerald Stephens officiating. Interment will be at the Czech National Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers will be Gary and Mark Brewster, David Mach, Arnold Mach, Gary Buszmann and Dennis Mielke.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Born June 28, 1927, at Sioux Falls, SD, Gene was a son of Lester and Elizabeth (Sampson) Brewster. He attended grade school in Sioux Falls and moved to Le Center when he was a teenager and attended Le Center High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then attended photography school in Connecticut. Gene had various jobs, including Green Giant Co. He married Lorraine Mach on April 15, 1950 at Community Baptist Church in New Prague. They lived in Missouri and Iowa, where he worked in a Woodward's Dept. Store. He also worked in the insurance business and then moved to Prior Lake, working in various jobs, after which he moved to Le Center, working for the Faribo Seed Co. Gene also managed the Mobil Gas Station in New Prague and then was an insurance salesman until retirement. The Brewsters continued to live in New Prague and moved to Montgomery about five years ago. He was a member of Community Baptist Church, New Prague, the New Prague Lions Club and Montgomery American Legion Post and a former member of the Montgomery Police Reserve. Gene helped with New Prague Meals On Wheels and was a driver for Aging Services For Le Sueur County. He loved fishing.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary, Santa Clara, CA and Mark (Linda), Montgomery; two grandchildren, Eric and Hannah Brewster; brother-in-law, Robert Zeiher, Los Gatos, CA; and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Joyce Zeiher and Roberta Dahle.
