Churches strengthen communities

By Chuck Kajer

Included on Page 9A of this issue is a listing of church services for the remainder of Holy Week and Easter Sunday. The Times has run this list as a public service for those who wish to observe the holiday and need help in finding the services that

suit their needs.

It is worth noting that many congregations have been part of the New Prague area for decades - St. Wenceslaus, Holy Trinity Lutheran and Community Baptist in New Prague as well as the smaller outlying Catholic and Lutheran parishes in the area.

In addition, there is an increasing number of new churches of many denominations that have established themselves in the area in recent years. Among these are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Prague, New Day Church in Elko New Market and Triumphant Life in Lonsdale.

Religion plays an important role in our society, especially in smaller towns. It gives people a common purpose for worship, a common sense of values to a community and the opportunity to work together to benefit the community at large.

These institutions strengthen the community and help make New Prague, Elko New Market, Lonsdale, Veseli, St. Patrick, Webster, St. Benedict, Union Hill, Heidelberg, Lexington, St. Thomas and other area communities the strong communities we are proud to call home.
