City Council picks former Marshall administrator

Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer

The New Prague City Council has named Michael Johnson, former city administrator in Marshall, as its choice to become the city's new administrator.

The council authorized Brimeyer Group, the firm the city is working with in its search for a new city administrator, to begin negotiations with Johnson. As of press time, no word had been received as to whether or not Johnson had accepted.

The council conducted an interview process Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21. The first day of the process included an informal luncheon with city department heads, a tour of the community and a reception with the council. Formal interviews, including individual meetings with council members, took place the second day of the event.

The interviews were held to find a successor for current city administrator Jerry Bohnsack who will be retiring soon. While a specific date has not been set, Bohnsack has indicated he will stay on if needed during the transition period.

Other candidates for the position included Brian Anderson, assistant city administrator in Lakeville; Dan Bucholtz, city administrator of Hanover; and Joel Erickson, city administrator of Lonsdale.
