City is ready for state funding cuts

Budget adjustments made by the City of New Prague earlier this year will help it survive the cuts in local government aid announced last week by Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

On Tuesday, June 16, the governor announced plans to eliminate an approximate $2.7 billion deficit in the state budget. That includes $64.2 million in cuts, or unallotments, to Local Government Aid (LGA) and market value homestead credit (MVHC) reimbursement for cities in 2009 and $128.3 million in 2010.

New Prague City Administrator Mike Johnson explained for the city, that means cuts in its LGA of $142,358 for 2009 and $328,474 for 2010.
