Citywide Cleanup sweeps up 44.5 tons

    New Prague’s City Wide Cleanup for 2013 resulted in a total of 44.5 tons of used items picked up by Lakers New Prague Sanitary Inc. over two Fridays.
    On Friday, May 3, crews collected 25.5 tons of articles on the north side of town, which is in Scott County. Since there are more houses in that area, Lakers New Prague Sanitary Inc. crews pick up more.
    The previous Friday, April 26, crews picked up 19 tons from the south side of town. This year’s total is close to last year’s.
    The city’s portion of the cleanup is estimated at $2,500. Scott County awarded the city a sub-grant of $1,051 to help pay for it. Lakers New Prague Sanitary’s portion is estimated at more than $6,000. According to Lakers and City Planner Ken Ondich to cover that cost of the cleanup, part of the utility bill goes toward it.
