Class of 2013 starts a new journey
The New Prague High School Class of 2013 completed one journey Friday, May 31, and embarked on a new journey as they became high school graduates. After the 265 members of the graduating class marched into a packed high school gym to the traditional music “Pomp and Circumstance,” principal Tom Doig greeted the graduates and their friends and family members attending.
He talked about the Class of 2013 and its achievements, noting that class members earned a collective $1.2 million in scholarship money from community organizations, various schools and other sources. That amount is believed to be a record.
Graduates Nicole Mc- Queen, Anna Solheid and Shelbie Schneider spoke during the ceremonies, offering their takes on the journey just completed and the new one about to begin. Also during the ceremony, senior members of the school choir and school band performed.
Assistant principal Lonnie Seifert recognized the Highest Honor graduates, those with a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.
Students were presented their diplomas and left the gym to "Allemande from Courtly Airs and Dances."
