Coach Jeff Gravon dies - Updated

Jeff Gravon, 45, physical education teacher at New Prague Middle School and head boys basketball coach at New Prague High School, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, in Rochester, where he was a patient at the Mayo Clinic.

Gravon had been battling a recurrence of the cancer that had caused his arm to be amputated last February. He had been on a medical leave of absence from his teaching position for about a year, but had continued to coach basketball. Gravon was at the Mayo Clinic last week, but returned to coach in the Trojans' win over Waconia Friday, Jan. 16, before returning to Rochester.

Funeral arrangements are now posted under the Death Notices on our website. A story will appear in next week's edition of The New Prague Times.

UPDATE:

The NPHS boys basketball game at home against Shakopee Friday night will be played as scheduled. The Saturday game at Austin has been postponed to Saturday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.
